As advised in earlier news, the Fair Work Commission announced a 2.5% increase to the national minimum wage and all award wages. Most awards increased from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2021. For most students who are working in the hospitality industry, you have to be aware of the change and protect your rights if necessary.
What do I need to know?
- If you are covered by an award, most of the awards for hospitality, tourism and events will increase after 1 November 2021. Check this page 'When does the increase start?'.
- If you’re covered by a registered agreement, you should check it to see whether this increase affects you.
- For anyone not covered by an award or an agreement, the new national minimum wage is $772.60 per week or $20.33 per hour; if you are a casual worker, there is a 25% casual loading.
- From 1 July 2021, the superannuation guarantee increased to 10% for eligible employees.
