Careers Expo or Job Fairs may seem like a speedy way of job searching, providing an opportunity to browse companies from a distance. However, they offer so much more than that. It’s an incredible chance to learn, develop key skills and get valuable facetime with people who could make all the difference to your career.
Here are 6 reasons that you should attend the Careers Expo:
1. Networking opportunities
Careers expo allows you to have a one-on-one chat with the hiring managers of companies you’re interested in. This is your chance to ask questions and, more importantly, to make a memorable impression. This personal contact may well help you to secure a job in the future.
2. Getting the inside scoop on vacancies
Before attending a fair, you should have done your research on the companies attending and the opportunities you’re most interested in. By speaking to employers directly you can find out more about what these opportunities entail, the entry requirements or anything else you want to know. Moreover, you might learn about other jobs that may be right for you.
3. Broadening your industry knowledge
Aside from learning more about different jobs and career paths, you can also develop a deeper understanding of particular companies or industries as a whole by attending careers fairs. The fair itself offers a great opportunity to practise how you interact with employers. From introducing yourself to getting across your key skills and motivations to employers, asking them questions and answering basic interview questions they may have, you’re able to rehearse and develop these skills in a setting that’s perhaps less daunting than a formal interview.
6. Boosting your confidence
Practice makes perfect, and getting to rehearse interacting with employers is bound to help you become more confident. Moreover, the more you learn about different jobs, careers, companies and industries, the better equipped you are to make career decisions with confidence too.
