About the program

The Higher Education Mentoring Program aims to complement your career aspirations and interests with the skills and knowledge of an industry related professional. The program is designed to give you exposure to the practical realities of working within the Hospitality, Tourism, Events, and Culinary industries.

Participating in this program will give you the opportunity to:

  • Increase your industry understanding
  • Develop and build professional networks
  • Identify your interests and skills and match them to appropriate careers
  • Broaden your knowledge of the career options open to you
  • Gain job hunting advice, techniques and career guidance from a mentor with professional experience in a relevant field
  • Enhance your communication and interpersonal skills to ensure “job readiness” that future employers look for in candidates

Applications close 4pm on Monday 5 March.

Duration

The program will run for eight months.

What is involved

  • Induction (prior to program start)
  • Informal meet and greet
  • At least one additional face-to-face meeting with your assigned mentor
  • Monthly contact by phone or email with your mentor
  • Support from the Careers Coordinator and Associate Dean of Faculty of Higher Education

Who are the mentors

The mentors have extensive and specialised industry knowledge and experience. They are all committted to the development of Hospitality, Foods, Tourism and Events industries and creating a sustainable workforce.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must:

  • be studying a degree
  • have completed at least one year of studies
  • be able to demonstrate strong academic performance
  • be open to learning and sharing your story; be prepared to engage
  • be committed to completing the induction process and proceeding 8 month timeframe

  1. complete a series of questions
  2. submit a current resume
  3. provide a written reference from a teacher or Angliss staff member to support your application.
